Tragic Drowning: Two Young Cousins Die in Village Pond in Kanker

Kanker: In a heartbreaking incident in Udkura village, under the Charama police station limits of Kanker district, two young cousins drowned in a pond on Sunday afternoon. Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem, while the families are left devastated by the tragedy.

The victims, 6-year-old Lomesh Jurri and Ayush Jurri, were both in the second grade. Being a holiday Sunday, the children were playing near the village pond in the afternoon. After some time, they went into the water and inadvertently entered its deep section, leading to their drowning.

A third child, who was playing nearby, witnessed the incident and began crying loudly. Hearing the commotion, villagers rushed to the pond and pulled the children out. They were immediately taken to Charama Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The incident caused shock and mourning throughout the village. The police have registered the case and are coordinating the post-mortem procedures. Villagers and relatives remain inconsolable, grappling with the sudden loss of the two young lives.

Authorities urge parents to closely supervise children near water bodies, especially during holidays, to prevent such tragedies in the future.
