Tragic Death During Police SI Recruitment: Aspirant Dies After 5-Km Fitness Run

Surat, Gujarat: A tragic incident occurred during the Sub-Inspector recruitment physical test in Bharuch, Gujarat, on Thursday. 25-year-old Raviraj Singh Jadeja collapsed immediately after completing the mandatory 5-kilometre run and later succumbed to a heart attack. Jadeja hailed from Kutch and was participating in the examination held in Bharuch.

According to eyewitnesses and the medical team at the site, Jadeja experienced severe difficulty in breathing immediately after finishing the run. He was rushed to Bharuch Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead. The post-mortem report revealed that he had some blockages in his heart.

Bharuch Police Superintendent Aksharaj Makwana stated that Raviraj had completed the run in 21 minutes, well under the stipulated 25-minute limit. His father, Mahendra Singh, serves as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the State Reserve Police and resides in Vadodara, where Raviraj also lived. This was not his first attempt at the physical test; he had previously failed in an earlier recruitment cycle.

In response, Bharuch Police have registered an accidental death case and begun an investigation. As a precaution, the authorities have decided that a cardiologist-led medical team will be stationed at the examination venue. The Apex Cardiology Hospital, Bharuch, will provide support for the medical team, which will include a cardiologist and auxiliary staff to handle any emergencies effectively.

The recruitment drive, which began on 21 January, sees approximately 800 to 1,200 candidates appearing daily for the physical test at the Bharuch grounds. The entire process is scheduled to continue for 44 days.
