Tragic Accident on Vande Bharat Express: Two Young Men Die While Taking Selfie Near Tracks in Rajkot

Rajkot, Gujarat – February 2, 2026: A shocking accident occurred near Rajkot on Monday evening when two migrant workers lost their lives while taking a selfie close to the railway tracks, as the Vande Bharat Express train passed by. Another individual was critically injured in the incident. The police confirmed that all three victims were residents of Uttar Pradesh.

According to Sub-Inspector A.R. Rathod of the Aji Dam police station, the incident took place around 4:45 PM near a railway crossing between Bhaktinagar and Ribda stations, while the Veraval–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express was speeding through the area. The three men had approached the tracks to take a group selfie when they were struck by the train.

The victims, aged between 20 and 29, were working in factories in Rajkot as migrant laborers. One of the men died on the spot, while the other two were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Tragically, one of the hospitalized men later succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Sandeep Patel and Sandeep Koli, while the injured individual is named Kapil Patel. Preliminary investigations revealed that the three were on their way to the railway station to drop off Sandeep Patel, who was traveling to his village. It was during this time that they decided to take a selfie near the tracks, leading to the fatal accident.

Police have urged the public to maintain a safe distance from railway tracks and refrain from risky behavior, emphasizing that incidents like this are entirely preventable.
