Kota, Rajasthan: A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday near the Chechat Interchange on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, claiming the lives of two women and leaving two others critically injured. The victims were traveling in a car returning from a pilgrimage to Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain.
According to reports, a high-speed container truck lost control and overturned onto the car near the toll plaza. The women, who were sisters-in-law, Sudha Rana from Noida and Shivani Bhandari, were seated in the rear of the vehicle and died instantly. The driver, Arjun Singh, stated that the car was moving at around 30 km/h when the container collided from behind, causing it to topple onto the car.
The injured, Shivani Bhandari’s husband Kuldeep Bhandari and Sudha Rana’s son Vardhaman Rana, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The rear portion of the car was completely damaged. Police, with the assistance of a crane, removed the container, recovering the bodies after about an hour of effort.
Shivani Bhandari had recently arrived in India from Australia with her husband and children to attend a relative’s funeral. Originally from Dehradun, she had planned a short visit and a pilgrimage to Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple with her family.
The container driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Chechat police have seized the vehicle and are currently searching for the driver. The victims’ families have been notified, and the bodies will undergo post-mortem examinations.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, urging drivers to exercise caution on the expressway.
