Sambhal, Jan 29, 2026: A heart-wrenching incident occurred in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, where a 9-year-old boy drowned in a deep, water-filled pit near a brick kiln. The pit, dug recently with a JCB machine, had collected rainwater, and the tragedy has sparked outrage among locals demanding strict action against the kiln owner.
According to reports, the incident took place near Gauri Brick Kiln in Barbari Madhiya village, under Hayatnagar police jurisdiction. The child, Priyansh, son of laborer Rohtas from Saijna village, was playing near the kiln when he accidentally slipped into the pit, approximately 9 feet deep, filled with water.
Upon realizing his son was missing, Rohtas rushed to search for him. Seeing Priyansh struggling in the water, he jumped into the pit to rescue him. Despite his efforts, Priyansh was pulled out too late and was declared dead at the scene.
Family members and fellow laborers have blamed the kiln management for gross negligence. “No safety precautions were in place,” said eyewitnesses. “There were no barricades or warning signs around the pit. If there had been, this tragedy could have been avoided.”
The community expressed anger and grief, noting that the kiln owner dug the pit near a frequently used pathway without providing basic safeguards. Laborers have demanded that a case of death due to negligence be filed against the kiln operator and strict action be taken.
Police confirmed that no formal complaint has been submitted yet but added that the matter is under investigation. Meanwhile, sources suggest that the kiln owner is attempting to settle the matter privately.
