Tonk Tragedy: Two Friends Die as Car Loaded with Liquor Plunges into Pond

Tonk, Rajasthan: In a tragic accident in Tonk district, two friends lost their lives after a car laden with liquor cartons plunged into a pond near Arnia Kakad village in the Jhirana police jurisdiction. Due to the car’s doors being locked, both men were unable to escape and drowned. The incident went unnoticed during the night and was discovered by villagers the following morning.

Incident Details

The mishap occurred late Thursday night while the victims were returning to their village carrying cartons of country-made liquor in their car. Near a bend by the pond, the vehicle reportedly lost balance and slid directly into the water.

At around 7 AM on Friday, villagers noticed the submerged car, with parts of it still visible above the water. They immediately informed the police.

Victims Identified

Police identified the deceased as Hansraj (40), son of Gopal Gurjar, and his friend Hansraj (42), son of Bhairulal Gurjar, both residents of Soda village, Diggi police area, and employed as salesmen at a liquor shop.

Trapped Inside the Car

According to Jhirana police station in-charge Rajendra Prasad, the car was heavily loaded with liquor cartons. As water filled the vehicle, the victims could not open the doors due to them being locked, resulting in instant drowning.

One body was found under the liquor cartons, while the other was in the driver’s seat. Villagers and police worked together to remove the bodies. Later, with the help of a tractor, the car was retrieved from the pond. Both bodies were taken to Tonk Hospital, Jhirana, for post-mortem before being handed over to the families.

The incident has left the victims’ village and families in deep mourning.
