Ticket Dispute Turns Tragic: Navy Officer’s Wife Jumps from Moving Train, Dies on the Spot

Kanpur:
A shocking incident occurred aboard a superfast special train traveling from Kanpur to Delhi, where a woman—identified as Aarti Devi, wife of a Navy jawan—died after allegedly jumping from a moving train following a dispute with the TTE over her ticket. The incident triggered panic among passengers and raised serious questions about safety protocols onboard.

Mistakenly Boarded the Wrong Train

According to railway officials, Aarti Devi had mistakenly boarded the Patna–New Delhi Anand Vihar Terminal special train. She reportedly held a ticket for a different train. The error led to a disagreement with TTE Santosh Kumar, during which the situation escalated, leaving the woman distressed.

The tragic event occurred around 9:30 AM on Wednesday, between Samho and Bharthana stations on the Delhi–Howrah route. Witnesses claim that during the argument, Aarti suddenly jumped from the moving train, resulting in her immediate death.

Train Halted, Statements Recorded

Following the incident, the train was halted at Dadri Railway Station, where railway officials recorded statements from both passengers and the TTE. The circumstances have sparked questions about why the train doors were open while in motion, a clear safety lapse.

Witnesses stated that a Bluetooth device was found on Aarti, but her mobile phone and bag were missing. Her gold chain and ring, however, were recovered at the scene.

Family in Shock

Aarti Devi, a resident of Gayatri Nagar in Pukhrayan (Kanpur Dehat), had been living with her husband in Mumbai. Her husband, Ajay Yadav, is posted in the Indian Navy in Chennai. She had visited her maternal home in Kanpur 15 days earlier and was on her way to Delhi for a medical appointment.

Her brother had helped her board the S11 coach at Kanpur Central station, unaware that it was the wrong train. Family members say she had been mentally distressed for some time, especially as the couple had no children even six years after their marriage.

Railway Probe Underway

Railway authorities have confirmed that Aarti had a valid ticket—but for another train. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events, the conduct of the TTE, and why the doors were not secured while the train was moving.
