A heart-wrenching road accident claimed the lives of three young men in Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar district late Wednesday night, when their speeding motorcycle rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley parked on the roadside. All three victims died on the spot, bringing grief and shock to their families and village.
Returning Home After a Day’s Hard Labour
According to police, the deceased were returning home after a long day of manual labour in Rewa. The accident occurred near the Gujra Toll Plaza, close to an Indian Gas Agency, under the jurisdiction of Mukundpur police outpost.
The three youths were riding on a single motorcycle and were on their way to their native village Jamuna when the tragedy struck.
Poor Visibility Turns Fatal
Preliminary investigation suggests that the tractor-trolley, loaded with paddy, was standing on the roadside in the dark, possibly due to a breakdown. Because of poor visibility and the high speed of the motorcycle, the riders failed to notice the stationary trolley in time. The bike crashed straight into the rear of the trolley with tremendous force.
Eyewitnesses said the impact was so severe that the motorcycle was completely wrecked, and the sound of the collision was heard from a distance. The riders were thrown onto the road, sustaining critical head and body injuries, and succumbed to their injuries at the spot.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Ankit Sodhiya, Deepak Kol, and Nagendra Kol, all residents of Jamuna village. They were the primary breadwinners of their families, surviving on daily wage labour.
As news of their deaths reached the village, a pall of silence and mourning descended, with grieving family members inconsolable over the sudden loss.
Police Action
On receiving information, Tala Police Station In-Charge Mahendra Mishra and Mukundpur Outpost In-Charge Nageshwar Mishra reached the accident site along with police personnel. The bodies were taken into custody, panchnama proceedings were completed, and the deceased were sent to Amarpatan Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident, including whether proper safety measures or warning signs were in place for the stationary tractor.
A Grim Reminder
The tragic incident once again highlights the dangers posed by unmarked, stationary vehicles on highways at night and the deadly consequences of over-speeding, leaving behind devastated families and raising urgent questions about road safety enforcement.
