Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): In a shocking incident from Naxal-affected Bijapur district, three masked assailants entered a house late Friday night and brutally murdered a 60-year-old man in front of his wife. Police suspect Naxal involvement behind the killing and have launched a detailed investigation.
Elderly man killed with an axe
The incident took place in Pootkel village. According to police, a group of unidentified men barged into the home of Dharma Soyam around 10 PM and attacked him with sharp weapons, including a tangiya (axe). The attackers reportedly struck multiple blows, killing him on the spot.
Assailants covered their faces
Providing details, police officials said the three attackers had their faces covered with cloth.
Upon receiving information, a team from Basaguda Police Station reached the village and began initial inquiries.
Wife witnessed the entire attack
At the time of the assault, Dharma Soyam was asleep. His wife witnessed the murder helplessly.
After the assailants fled the scene, she alerted neighbours, who then informed police.
Naxal link under investigation
Police strongly suspect that Naxalites may be behind the attack. The region has seen similar incidents in recent months.
Just last month, two villagers in the nearby Nela Kanker area were killed by Naxals on suspicion of being police informers.
Police begin probe
Station in-charge Deepak Sahu said,
“This appears to be a Naxal-linked incident. We are collecting information and examining all angles, including Naxal involvement and the identity of the attackers.”
A detailed search operation has been launched in the area, and questioning of local residents is underway.
