Three Children’s Mother Allegedly Sold in Rajasthan While Husband Worked in Gujarat

Maharajganj, January 16:
A shocking case of human trafficking has come to light from Maharajganj district, where a woman, mother of three minor daughters, was allegedly sold to a person in Rajasthan for money while her husband was away in Gujarat for work.

According to the complaint, the victim’s husband Birbal, a resident of Nauka Sotah village under Kothibhar police station area, often travels outside the state to earn his livelihood. In April 2025, he had gone to Gujarat for labour work to support his wife and three young daughters.

During his absence, his wife Savitri reportedly went to her parental home at Jamui Pandit along with her daughters and some cash. On April 14, 2025, Birbal received information that his wife had gone missing from her parental home. The very next day, her father Parasnath lodged a missing person report at Nichlaul police station.

However, when Birbal returned from Gujarat and started searching for his wife, he allegedly discovered that his father-in-law Parasnath and brother-in-law Vikau had sold Savitri to an unknown person in Kota, Rajasthan, driven by greed for money. It is further alleged that the missing report was deliberately filed to mislead the police and conceal the crime.

After nearly eight months, acting on the order of a Judicial Magistrate, the police have registered an FIR against the accused father and brother under relevant sections of law and initiated an investigation.

Station House Officer Akhilesh Kumar Verma confirmed that the case has been registered on the directions of the court and necessary legal action is underway. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns about the safety of women and the persistence of human trafficking in rural areas.
