
West Champaran (Bihar): In a rare and extraordinary incident from Bihar’s West Champaran district, three buffaloes displayed remarkable bravery by confronting a tiger to save their owner’s life. The fierce animals charged at the predator and injured it with their horns, forcing the tiger to flee into nearby bushes.
The incident occurred in Sherwa Mandiha village under the Sahodra police station area, creating panic and fear among local residents.
Tiger Attacked Youth Near Riverbank
According to local sources, the incident took place on Monday morning. Upendra Kumar (23), son of Saheb Yadav, had taken his seven buffaloes for grazing. His younger brother Bhupendra stated that around 9:30 AM, Upendra was bathing the animals at the Pandai River ghat when a tiger, reportedly hiding in the bushes, suddenly attacked him.
The tiger pounced on the youth without warning, leaving him severely injured.
Buffaloes Became a Shield, Attacked Tiger with Horns
As Upendra struggled and screamed for help, three of the buffaloes immediately rushed towards the tiger. Witnesses said the animals struck the predator repeatedly with their sharp horns. The unexpected counterattack left the tiger bleeding and forced it to retreat.
Overpowered by the buffaloes’ aggressive defence, the tiger escaped and disappeared back into the dense bushes.
Victim Hospitalised, Out of Danger
Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing Upendra’s cries and found him in a blood-soaked condition. He was immediately taken to the Gaunaha Referral Hospital.
Doctor Sachin Kumar confirmed that Upendra suffered deep injuries on his abdomen and waist. He was reportedly unconscious when brought to the hospital but is now stated to be out of danger.
The three buffaloes that fought the tiger also sustained injuries during the violent encounter.
Forest Department Team Deployed
Following the incident, the area remains tense, with villagers fearing another tiger attack. Ranger Sunil Kumar Pathak said that a forest department team has been dispatched to the location to track the tiger’s movement and ensure the safety of residents.
The incident has drawn widespread attention as it highlights not only the increasing human-wildlife conflict in border forest areas, but also the extraordinary loyalty and courage shown by domestic animals in protecting their owners.
