Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:
Spiritual leader Satua Baba, one of the most talked-about figures at Magh Mela 2026, has hit back at critics questioning his association with ultra-luxury vehicles, asserting that the assets symbolize the “prosperity and grandeur of Sanatan Dharma.”
Recently, Satua Baba was seen travelling in a ₹3-crore Land Rover Defender, followed by appearances alongside a ₹5.5-crore Porsche, sparking widespread debate on social media. Many users questioned the compatibility of ascetic life with such luxury, prompting a sharp response from the saint.
‘Cars Belong to the Ashram, Bought with Devotees’ Donations’
Addressing the controversy, Satua Baba said that all the vehicles were purchased using donations from devotees and are registered in the name of the ashram, not in his personal name.
“These vehicles represent the glory of Sanatan Dharma. Those attacking us are not questioning me, but are actually uncomfortable with Sanatan traditions,” he said, adding that all documents related to the vehicles are complete and available.
Deep Roots in Kashi’s Sanatan Peeth
Satua Baba is the Mahant of Sanatan Peeth, located near Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, an ancient religious institution established in 1803 by Gujarati saint Jetha Patel. The Peeth is known for imparting Vedic education to young students (batuks) and has a long-standing spiritual lineage.
During the last Maha Kumbh, Satua Baba was also conferred the title of Jagadguru, further elevating his standing among followers.
From Santosh Das to Satua Baba
Born as Santosh Das in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, Satua Baba arrived in Kashi at the age of 11 and became associated with Sanatan Peeth. Recognizing his aptitude and dedication, senior saints appointed him as the successor to the Peeth at a young age.
Chartered Flights and Political Attention
Images circulating on social media also show Satua Baba travelling in chartered aircraft, adding to the debate around spiritual leaders and material wealth. Despite the controversy, his influence remains intact. Recently, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during his visit to Magh Mela for the holy dip, also stopped at Satua Baba’s camp.
As discussions continue over spirituality and luxury, Satua Baba remains unapologetic, framing prosperity as a reflection of faith and devotion rather than contradiction—a stance that continues to divide opinion but keeps him firmly in the public spotlight.
