Thieves Steal Railway Tracks and Machinery Worth ₹2 Crore Overnight in Korba

Korba, Chhattisgarh: In a shocking incident, thieves have cut and stolen railway tracks along with machinery worth approximately ₹2 crore from a new rail line project in the Gevra-Pendra area of Korba district. The theft has caused widespread alarm among local authorities and workers.

The stolen materials include iron tracks, metal plates, and heavy machinery from the construction site of the new railway line between Kusmunda and Kuchena Jatga, spanning 60–65 kilometers. The thefts reportedly occurred over multiple days. Local police have registered a complaint and are investigating the incident.

Impact on Railway Project
The rail line construction has been contracted to a private company, which reported the theft to the police. Officials said the incident has not only caused financial losses running into crores but also disrupted the project’s timelines. Workers and laborers involved in construction are reportedly living in fear due to repeated thefts at the site. Additional Superintendent of Police Lakhan Patle confirmed that the police are inspecting the site and investigating the theft.

Previous Incidents
This is not the first time such thefts have occurred in Korba. Earlier, thieves in the Dhodhipara area cut and stole a 40-year-old iron bridge using a gas cutter. Half of the bridge was missing when locals discovered the theft. Police arrested 10 suspects in that case, while five others remain at large.
