New Delhi: In an incident that left even police officials astonished, two thieves who attempted to commit theft inside a police station in East Delhi ended up being arrested on the spot and sent directly to jail. The accused reportedly entered the Pandav Nagar Police Station and tried to steal equipment, assuming they could “test their luck” even in a highly secured area.
However, their plan backfired when alert police personnel caught them red-handed.
Incident Took Place on February 11
According to police sources, the incident occurred on February 11 at around 4:30 PM, when two young men entered the police station premises and began tampering with a Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) unit kept at the back of the station.
A woman constable on duty noticed their suspicious activity and immediately informed a head constable. When the police staff checked the area, they found the DFMD device lying open on the ground, and its internal components being removed.
During inspection, it was discovered that the battery units were missing.
Accused Tried to Mislead Police
When questioned by police officials, the two suspects identified as Sumit (24) and Rajkumar (26) attempted to mislead authorities by claiming they had been called to repair the DFMD unit.
However, their response raised further suspicion, and police demanded details about who had assigned them the repair work.
Tried to Escape but Failed
As the questioning continued and their story began to collapse, both suspects panicked and attempted to flee through the back gate of the police station.
But their escape attempt was short-lived. The duty officer and other policemen chased them down and apprehended them within minutes.
Stolen Batteries Recovered
During a personal search, police recovered the stolen DFMD batteries, which were found hidden under the shirts of the accused.
Both men were immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Case Registered Under Relevant BNS Sections
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including:
- Section 303(2) (Theft)
- Section 317(2) (Possession of stolen property)
- Section 3(5) (Common intention)
Officials stated that an investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were acting alone or were part of a larger theft gang operating in the city.
Similar Incident Reported Earlier
Police also recalled that in 2024, a theft case had been reported at Bhalswa Dairy Police Station, where thieves stole vehicle parts from two-wheelers parked in the station’s malkhana area.
The latest incident has once again raised concerns about repeated attempts to target even police premises, highlighting the boldness of criminals and the need for stricter surveillance.
