New Delhi/Chapra: BJP MP from Saran (Chapra), Rajiv Pratap Rudy, delivered a fiery and politically loaded speech in the Lok Sabha, taking a veiled but unmistakable swipe at the Lalu Prasad Yadav–Rabri Devi political dynasty. His remarks, made on the floor of the House, have since triggered intense debate and reactions across political and social media circles.
Addressing the Speaker, Rudy declared himself a unique political figure, claiming there was no one like him in Parliament—or perhaps anywhere in the world—who had contested elections against almost an entire political family that produced two chief ministers.
“I come from a state where a Chief Minister went to jail and placed his wife on the throne. This is how democracy was defined. Mr Speaker, I am such a person who probably does not exist anywhere—certainly not in this Parliament—who has fought elections against almost every member of one family, including two Chief Ministers,” Rudy said.
He added that his electoral battles against members of the same household could qualify as a Guinness World Record, asserting that only a few members of that family remain whom he has not yet defeated.
Indirect Yet Pointed Jibe at Lalu–Rabri Family
Though Rudy refrained from naming the family directly during his speech, the political reference was clear. The statement was widely interpreted as an attack on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, former CM Rabri Devi, and their family’s long-standing dominance in Bihar politics.
Later, sharing the clip of his speech on social media platform X, Rudy wrote that Saran had witnessed prolonged political struggle, having faced elections against two Chief Ministers from the same family and nearly all its members—an experience he described as possibly unmatched.
Earlier Claims of Electoral Victories
In an interview given in August 2025, Rudy had openly stated that he had been politically fighting the Lalu family since 1990. He claimed to have defeated Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Chandrika Rai (Rabri Devi’s brother), and Rohini Acharya, adding that he was unsure who else remained in the family to contest against.
Mixed Reactions on Social Media
Rudy’s post sparked sharp reactions online. Some users praised his bluntness, while others questioned his priorities. One user commented that he could have openly named the “fodder scam convict and his family.” Another criticised him for not raising issues related to railway connectivity between Chapra and Patna, while others urged him to speak on aviation-related crises, given his background as a former Civil Aviation Minister and a licensed commercial pilot.
Who Is Rajiv Pratap Rudy?
Rajiv Pratap Rudy is a senior BJP leader and a multiple-term MP from Bihar’s Saran district. He has served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and earlier as Civil Aviation Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He is also a former Rajya Sabha MP and the BJP’s national spokesperson.
Rudy is a US Federal Aviation Administration–certified pilot, licensed to fly Airbus A320 aircraft, and began his political career as a student leader. At the age of just 26, he was elected an MLA, later entering the Lok Sabha in 1996 and retaining the seat in subsequent elections.
Political Significance
With Bihar heading towards another crucial electoral phase, Rudy’s remarks are being seen as part of a broader BJP strategy to revive the narrative against dynastic politics, particularly targeting the RJD’s first family. His statement has once again brought the Lalu–Rabri legacy versus BJP’s anti-dynasty pitch to the centre of political discourse.
