Thave Durga Temple Theft: Police Recover Pieces of Crown, Release Third Suspect’s Photo

A massive manhunt is underway in Gopalganj following a high-profile theft at Thave Durga Temple, Bihar, but the stolen gold necklace and crown remain untraced. Police have arrested two suspects so far and recovered fragments of the temple crown. Authorities have now released a photograph of the third suspect and announced a reward for information leading to his capture.

Third Suspect Identified
The wanted suspect has been identified as Sharif Alam, a resident of Ward No. 28, Arar Mod, Gopalganj town. Police are appealing to the public to provide any information regarding his whereabouts, assuring confidentiality and a reward for valuable tips.

Intensive Search Operations
The Gopalganj police, assisted by a special team from Patna, have conducted intensive raids across areas surrounding the town, including Arar Mod and Bahora Tola. Using metal detectors, authorities are searching gardens, scrapyards, and other locations where the stolen items—including the gold necklace, crown, and a silver umbrella—might have been concealed.

Recovery So Far
During these operations, police have recovered electrical wires, ropes, electronic gadgets, and other miscellaneous items used in the theft. Fragments of the stolen crown were seized from suspect Ijammul Alam, who was injured during a police encounter and admitted to Sadar Hospital.

Background of the Theft
According to Gopalganj SP, on the nights of 17 and 18 December, thieves broke into the temple using a gas cutter to force open the sanctum. They stole the gold necklace from the deity, a ceremonial crown, a silver umbrella, and the donation box. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and is continuing its systematic operations to recover the stolen treasures.

Police are coordinating search efforts across Bihar and neighboring Uttar Pradesh, facing significant challenges in tracing both the stolen items and the tools used in the crime.
