Teenager Commits Suicide Alleging Sexual Assault by Cousin in Lucknow’s Para Area

Lucknow: A tragic incident has come to light from the Para area of Lucknow, where a teenage girl allegedly took her own life after accusing her cousin of sexual assault.

According to reports, the teenager, originally from Hardoi, consumed poison at her village home. A suicide note recovered by her family reportedly names her cousin as the alleged perpetrator. Para police have initiated an investigation, while the accused remains absconding.

Background of the Incident
The teenager lived with her parents and brother in Devpur, Para area, while her father earned a living selling vegetables. On 15 December, her family traveled to Hardoi to oversee the construction of a house, leaving the girl in her grandmother’s care. Her cousin, the son of her maternal aunt and an auto driver by profession, lived nearby.

The teenager joined her parents in Hardoi on 18 December but became withdrawn and uncommunicative. Despite repeated inquiries, she did not reveal the reason for her distress.

Poisoning and Hospitalization
On 23 December, the teenager ingested poison. She was first admitted to a private hospital, then transferred to Balaganj Hospital as her condition worsened. From there, she was referred to the Trauma Center and later sent to Balrampur Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning.

Suicide Note Reveals Allegations
Her brother discovered a photograph of the suicide note on her mobile phone. A subsequent search of her belongings confirmed the presence of the note, in which she accused her cousin of sexual assault and wrote that he had threatened to harm her father and brothers if she disclosed the incident.

Police Action
Para police have seized the teenager’s phone and the suicide note. DCP (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava stated that no formal complaint has been lodged by the family yet. Further action will be taken once a complaint is filed.

Family Concerns
Upon reviewing the note, the family spoke with the girl’s grandmother, who revealed that the teenager had been alone at home briefly when the alleged incident may have occurred. Police are also investigating the nature of the relationship between the teenager and the accused.
