In a heartwarming cross-cultural celebration of faith and love, an Italian couple, Antonelia and Gloris, tied the knot in Varanasi following traditional Hindu rituals. The ceremony took place at the Nau Durga Temple in Shivala, where the duo took seven sacred vows (pheras) around the holy fire — embracing India’s ancient Sanatan tradition as a symbol of eternal union.
Faith Beyond Borders
The couple, both professionals based in Italy, had arrived in Varanasi three days prior to the ceremony. Though they had already been married in a Christian church in Italy, their deep spiritual inclination toward Indian customs and Hindu philosophy brought them to the holy city to sanctify their bond once again — this time “for seven lifetimes.”
Since the bride’s family could not be present, her Indian foster brother performed the ‘kanyadaan’ (ritual of giving away the bride), making the moment both emotional and sacred.
Kashyap Gotra and Complete Hindu Rituals
Priest Vikas Pandey, who conducted the ceremony, shared that the couple expressed their wish to marry as per Hindu customs. As their ancestral gotra was unknown, they were symbolically assigned the Kashyap gotra, ensuring the rituals were performed according to traditional Vedic norms.
The entire ceremony lasted for about two hours, filled with Sanskrit chants, sacred vows, and traditional offerings. The wedding concluded with the couple exchanging garlands and embracing each other, overwhelmed with joy and devotion.
Christian by Birth, Devotees by Heart
Despite being Christians by birth, both Gloris and Antonelia expressed their reverence for Hindu beliefs and spiritual values. “Getting married with Hindu rituals gives us peace and a sense of eternal connection,” said a radiant Gloris, dressed in a traditional red sari.
Their decision to honor Indian traditions in one of the world’s oldest spiritual cities — Varanasi — reflects the growing global admiration for Hindu culture, rituals, and philosophy that transcend religion and nationality.
A Marriage That Blends Cultures and Faith
The Italian couple’s wedding not only celebrated love but also showcased how faith, respect, and spirituality can bridge boundaries of culture and belief. From the banks of the Ganga to the chants of Vedic mantras, their marriage stood as a testament to the universal spirit of devotion and togetherness that defines India’s timeless heritage.
