Launching a strong political attack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Apni Janata Party president Swami Prasad Maurya on Sunday questioned the credibility and intent of the PDA (Backward–Dalit–Minority) political narrative, calling it inconsistent and opportunistic. In the process, Maurya also made pointed remarks targeting Dimple Yadav, MP from Mainpuri and Akhilesh Yadav’s wife.
Addressing the media during his visit to Lakhimpur Kheri, Maurya accused Akhilesh Yadav of redefining the meaning of PDA according to political convenience, especially in view of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for 2027.
“PDA Means Different Things at Different Times”
Swami Prasad Maurya said that Akhilesh Yadav himself appears confused about the meaning of PDA. “For Akhilesh Yadav, the meaning of PDA keeps changing. Sometimes ‘P’ stands for backward classes, sometimes it is projected as Pandit. ‘D’ sometimes means Dalit and sometimes Dimple Yadav,” Maurya remarked, triggering political controversy.
He further stated that even the meaning of ‘A’ in PDA is not consistent. “At present, Akhilesh is saying ‘A’ stands for upper castes. The interpretation of PDA changes according to time and convenience,” Maurya added.
Signals of a Separate Political Path
Maurya’s remarks come amid indications that he may contest the upcoming elections on a separate political platform, distancing himself from both the BJP and the Samajwadi Party. Notably, Maurya had quit the BJP ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections and joined the Samajwadi Party, but failed to retain his Assembly seat.
Political observers see his latest comments as an attempt to reassert his independent political identity while challenging Akhilesh Yadav’s social coalition strategy.
Political Heat Expected to Rise
Calling PDA politics a “confused mix,” Maurya said that anyone who does not clearly understand the concept cannot genuinely represent it. His remarks, particularly those involving Dimple Yadav, are expected to further intensify political tensions in Uttar Pradesh.
The Samajwadi Party has not yet issued an official response to the comments, but the statement has already sparked debate in political circles, with reactions expected in the coming days.
