Surat Builder’s Suicide Case: Girlfriend Arrested for Alleged Blackmail

Surat, February 23, 2026: A shocking revelation has emerged in the suicide case of prominent Surat-based builder and Jolly Group owner, Tushar Ghelani. Police investigations have revealed that Ghelani was allegedly being blackmailed by his girlfriend, Poonam Bhadauria, prompting him to take the drastic step of shooting himself.

Ghelani was hospitalized after the incident and succumbed to his injuries on February 4, following the suicide attempt four days before his daughter’s wedding.

Relationship Turns Controversial

According to Surat city police, the relationship between Tushar Ghelani and Poonam Bhadauria began professionally. Bhadauria initially joined the Jolly Group in 2010, worked for a few years, and then reconnected with Ghelani in 2014. While it began as a boss-employee dynamic, the relationship eventually became personal.

ACP Z.R. Desai of Surat Police confirmed that the relationship was initially consensual but later developed into a close personal affair. The family of the builder was unaware of the secret liaison.

Financial Transactions Under Scrutiny

Investigations reveal that Ghelani conducted substantial financial transactions with Bhadauria. Documents indicate that she held 50% shares in a school set up under the “Bachpan” brand, despite making no actual financial investment. Over six to seven years, approximately ₹1.37 crore was transferred to her accounts as profits. In 2025, she was also allotted two shops under Ghelani’s group.

Police reports suggest that Ghelani feared that Bhadauria might create complications around the time of his daughter’s wedding, which allegedly contributed to his suicide.

Arrest and Legal Action

Following complaints from the builder’s daughter, Poonam Bhadauria has been arrested by Umra Police, Surat. She faces charges under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code for abetment of suicide.

Police confirm that after uncovering the financial transactions and the secret nature of their relationship, action was taken on Sunday afternoon, ensuring accountability in this tragic case.
