Supreme Court Seeks Report on False Affidavit in Indore Case; Police Commissioner Asked to Explain Action

Indore: The Indore Police now face serious scrutiny after presenting incorrect information regarding the criminal record of accused Anwar Hussain before the Supreme Court. In a crucial hearing today, the Court has summoned the Police Commissioner to clarify what disciplinary action has been taken against TI Indramani Patel and ADCP Dishesh Agrawal, who filed the false affidavit.

Affidavit Found Misleading

During the previous hearing, the Court described the affidavits submitted by both officers as “beyond the facts.” Following this, the Court directed the Indore Police Commissioner to submit a larger affidavit on 9 December 2025, detailing any departmental action taken against the officials involved.

Details of the False Claims

The issue came to light when TI Patel and ADCP Agrawal opposed Anwar Hussain’s bail, claiming in their affidavit that the accused had eight serious cases against him. However, upon verification by a two-judge bench comprising Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Ehsanuddin Amanullah, it was revealed that four of these cases did not involve Anwar at all. Shockingly, one of the cases cited as IPC 376 (rape) actually pertained to another individual, Karan Pawar, and was related to the Arms Act, not a sexual offense.

Court-Verified Discrepancies

Senior advocate Neeraj Soni stated that this discrepancy was first noted on 28 October 2025. The Supreme Court subsequently listed TI Patel and ADCP Agrawal as Respondents 2 and 3 and the Indore Police Commissioner as Respondent 5. Previously, the Chandan Nagar Police had cited all eight cases in the High Court as well. In his counter affidavit, Anwar Hussain clarified that only four cases were actually registered against him, and he had already been acquitted in one.

Police Submit Corrected Affidavit

Under mounting pressure, the police filed a second affidavit, acknowledging that three cases from Mandleshwar and Sanawad attributed to Anwar were actually registered against another individual. Additionally, the Chandan Nagar rape case had also been incorrectly listed against him.

The Supreme Court is now poised to determine accountability and ensure that appropriate action is taken against the erring police officers for presenting false information before the apex court.
