Sultanpur Tragedy: Pregnant Woman Found Hanging at Home, Married to Brother-in-Law After Sister’s Death

Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking incident on Monday evening, a pregnant woman was found hanging in a room at her home in Sultanpur. A post-mortem conducted on Tuesday confirmed that the death was a suicide. The woman, identified as Jyoti, had married her brother-in-law Gyan Prakash Kori about a year ago, following the death of her elder sister Poonam.

Family Background
Gyan Prakash’s first marriage was with Poonam from Satnapur village. The couple had a five-year-old daughter, but Poonam tragically passed away during childbirth around three years ago. With family consent, Jyoti, Poonam’s younger sister, married Gyan Prakash to care for the child. Jyoti was also pregnant at the time of her death.

Dispute Before Tragic Incident
Reports suggest that Jyoti had visited her maternal home in Satnapur about two weeks ago. She reportedly had a minor argument with her husband when he came to bring her back, after which she returned to her marital home. On Monday evening, her body was found hanging in her room, creating shock and distress among family members.

Police Investigation
Jyoti’s father resides in Delhi. The police have taken the body into custody for post-mortem. City CO Saurabh Samant confirmed that the crime scene has been inspected, and further legal action will be initiated once a formal complaint is filed.
