Sub-Inspector Bhuvaneshwari Singh Arrested in Ghaziabad for Demanding Rs 45,000 Bribe

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh:
A senior police officer, Sub-Inspector Bhuvaneshwari Singh, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by the Anti-Corruption team for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 45,000. Singh, who serves as the reporting in-charge at the Sahibabad Women Police Station, was caught red-handed after a complaint was filed by a local resident, Rampal Saini, on January 9.

According to the complaint, Singh allegedly demanded the bribe to remove the names of Rampal’s family members from a police case filed by his daughter-in-law against his son. The Anti-Corruption team meticulously set up a trap and caught the officer in the act.

Who is Bhuvaneshwari Singh?
Bhuvaneshwari Singh hails from Aligarh and joined the Uttar Pradesh Police in 2002. Over the years, she has been in the spotlight multiple times for various reasons, including prior arrests in bribery cases. Singh has also been part of the first-ever female police encounter team in Uttar Pradesh. She gained media attention during Navratri 2025, when she helped transport injured criminals on her shoulders during an encounter operation in Ghaziabad—a moment widely circulated on social media.

Singh was previously arrested in 2022 in Kanpur for demanding a bribe in connection with a case involving two brothers caught with women in a hotel. At that time, the bribe reportedly included cash, jewelry, and other valuables, amounting to Rs 50,000.

Police Statement:
ACP Sahibabad Shweta Yadav confirmed that a case has been filed, the officer has been suspended, and departmental investigation has been ordered. The complainant, Rampal Saini, stated that the dispute originated within the family after his son’s marriage, leading to police involvement and the alleged bribery demand.

The Anti-Corruption team continues to investigate the matter and examine whether Singh’s actions were part of a larger pattern of misconduct.
