Strange Triangle in Chhatarpur: Husband Claims Love for Both Wives, First Wife Alleges Betrayal and Blindness

A bizarre domestic dispute has emerged from Surajpur village in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, involving a husband, his first wife, and a second wife. Hemlata Sahu, a differently-abled woman, has accused her husband, Rakesh Sahu, and his family of domestic violence, financial exploitation, and forcing her to consent to a second marriage under duress. According to Hemlata, she was deliberately given suspicious medication by her in-laws, resulting in a near-complete loss of her eyesight, after which her husband allegedly took advantage of her helplessness to marry another woman for ₹1 lakh.

Allegations of Domestic Violence and Deception

Hemlata claims that shortly after her marriage in 2021, her in-laws demanded ₹2 lakh as dowry. Upon failing to meet these demands, she alleges she was subjected to physical abuse. During an illness, her eyesight deteriorated significantly due to alleged administration of harmful substances by her in-laws. Following this, Rakesh Sahu allegedly orchestrated a second marriage with a woman named Rajkumari, deceitfully securing Hemlata’s thumb impression on notarised documents under the pretext of consent, despite her inability to fully understand the legal process.

Husband’s Statement: Love for Both Wives

Rakesh Sahu maintains that he did not expel Hemlata from the house and that he continues to wish to live with both women. He asserts that Hemlata was visually impaired even before marriage, a fact that he claims was hidden from him at the time of his union with Rajkumari. According to him, Rajkumari was brought in primarily to care for Hemlata and assist with household chores, and he insists that both wives can coexist under the same roof.

Second Wife’s Account

Rajkumari corroborates the claim that all three parties initially agreed to the arrangement and that notarised documents were executed with mutual consent. She claims her presence in the household was intended to provide care and support to Hemlata, including preparing meals, assisting with bathing, washing clothes, and attending to other daily needs. Despite her adherence to these responsibilities, Rajkumari alleges she is now being unfairly blamed for the dispute.

Police Investigation Underway

CSP Chhatarpur, Arun Soni, confirmed that the Bamihta police station received a complaint from Hemlata and that the case is currently under investigation. The officer clarified that notarised or stamped documents executed under duress or without full understanding are not legally valid. The police are assessing the circumstances under which the documents were signed and will ensure statutory action is taken based on the findings.

The case highlights complex issues of domestic abuse, coercion, and legal validity of notarised agreements in situations involving vulnerable individuals, and authorities are carefully examining all evidence before proceeding further.
