Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh: In a major crackdown against corruption in the transport department, the Special Task Force (STF) has exposed a syndicate illegally collecting money from overloaded trucks in Raebareli. The operation led to the arrest of the main middleman, Mohit Singh, and FIRs registered against 11 people, including several senior officials.
Details of the STF Action
The STF launched the operation following repeated complaints about illegal collection from overloaded trucks, especially those carrying murram and gravel on the Raebareli-Fatehpur route. Intelligence reports revealed that trucks coming from Banda and Fatehpur were being allowed to pass without proper inspection, facilitated by Mohit Singh and his associates.
Investigations revealed that Mohit Singh and Sunil Yadav were collecting ₹5,000 per truck, of which ₹500 went to the middlemen and the rest to transport department officials. During the raid in the Lalganj police station area, STF seized a Scorpio vehicle belonging to Mohit Singh, along with records of 114 trucks and dumpers, multiple bank ATM cards, debit cards, cheque books, and cash.
Officials Involved
The main accused officials include ARTO Enforcement Officer Ambuj and PTO Rehana Bano from Raebareli, charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Others booked in the case are Diwan Naushad, driver Sushil, Fatehpur ARTO Pushpanjali, driver Sikandar, PTO Akhilesh Chaturvedi, Ashok Tiwari, Sunil Yadav, and Mithun, among others.
STF Statement
STF Inspector Amit Tiwari filed the case at Lalganj Police Station. The investigation alleges that these officials colluded to allow overloaded vehicles to pass in exchange for monthly collections running into lakhs of rupees. No official statement has yet been made by the accused officers.
The STF has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further actions will be taken based on findings.
