Stampede During Kalash Yatra in Gwalior Claims One Life; Navgrah Temple Consecration Underway

Gwalior: A tragic stampede occurred during the Kalash Yatra in Gwalior, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to four others. The event was part of the consecration ceremony of Asia’s largest Navgrah Temple, taking place in the Dabra area of the city.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, the first day of the consecration festivities scheduled from February 10 to 20. The Kalash Yatra had begun as planned in the morning, but panic broke out during the procession, leading to a stampede. The deceased, an elderly woman, was pronounced dead on the spot, while two to three women sustained injuries and were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Ceremony Overseen by Former Minister Narottam Mishra
The consecration (Pran Pratishtha) of the Navgrah Peeth is being conducted under the supervision of former minister Dr. Narottam Mishra. The festival commenced on February 10 with the Kalash Yatra, followed by three days of religious discourses by Pandit Pradeep Mishra, programs by poet Kumar Vishwas, and concluding four days with Pandit Dhirendra Shastri.

Organizers have described the Navgrah Peeth as the largest in Asia. However, the unfortunate stampede on the very first day has cast a shadow over the celebrations. According to reports, the Kalash Yatra was scheduled for 1 PM, but many women had already gathered at the stadium by 9 AM. The distribution of Kalash pots triggered confusion and panic, leading to the stampede.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the stampede and taking steps to ensure the safety of participants for the remaining days of the event.
