Speed Claims Three Lives on Mathura–Bareilly Highway; Six Deaths in 12 Hours Raise Safety Concerns

A tragic accident on the Mathura–Bareilly Highway late Sunday night claimed the lives of three young men, with another critically injured. The incident took place near Hullu village under Raya police station limits and has once again raised serious questions about road safety in the region.

Car Crashes Into Tractor-Trolley

According to police, the victims — all residents of Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur — were travelling in a Vitara Brezza (UP27 AJ 5050) on their way to Mathura. Around 1 a.m., their speeding car rammed into a slow-moving tractor-trolley, leaving the vehicle completely mangled.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Rajan Gupta – died on the spot
  • Saurabh Verma (33), son of Ramkishan Verma – died during treatment in Agra
  • Nikunj Gupta (27), son of Vijay Gupta – also succumbed to injuries in Agra

The fourth occupant, Raja Bhardwaj, is undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.

Six Deaths in 12 Hours in Mathura

The accident is part of a disturbing pattern—official sources confirm that six people have died in separate road accidents within the last 12 hours in the district. Most of these cases, including the latest one, are believed to be caused by overspeeding.

Vehicle Seized, Investigation Underway

Police have seized the tractor-trolley involved in the collision and begun a detailed investigation. Officers say the initial assessment points to high-speed driving, but further inquiries will determine the exact circumstances.

The repeated incidents have intensified criticism of the administration for failing to implement strict measures to control overspeeding, despite rising fatalities on major routes.
