The incident involved a horrifying attack in which the victim was struck with a beer bottle, strangled with a rope, and hanged from a tree.
Special Judge Masood Ahmed Khan of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act court in Mandleshwar convicted Yash, also known as Yasu Patel, for the murder of 17-year-old Abhinav Dabur. In addition to life imprisonment, he was sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹2,000 for destroying evidence. The case pertains to the kidnapping and cruel killing of Congress MLA Kedar Dabur’s minor nephew.
Victim Lured Under Pretext of Going Out
According to the prosecution, on March 23, 2023, Abhinav Dabur left home stating he was going to the Bistan Naka area. When he did not return late at night, his family tried contacting him, but his phone was switched off. Following a missing person report, Khargone police registered a case of abduction and began an investigation.
Attack After Refusal to Lend Motorcycle
During the investigation, the main accused, Yash Patel, along with a minor, admitted to the crime. They revealed that they had lured Abhinav to meet them, where the three consumed alcohol on the Khargone-Bistan Road. The accused demanded to borrow Abhinav’s Bullet motorcycle. Upon refusal, they struck him with a beer bottle, rendering him unconscious. They then took him to a trenching ground, strangled him with a thick nylon rope, and murdered him.
Body Hung from Tree, Motorcycle Stolen
After the murder, the accused hanged the body from a tree near Dabaria Road and placed thorny bushes around it to protect it from wild animals. They then fled with Abhinav’s motorcycle. The victim was the nephew of Congress MLA Kedar Dabur from the Bhagwanpura Assembly constituency.
The special public prosecutor, Vijay Singh Jamra, added that another minor accused involved in the case is being tried separately in the Juvenile Court, Khargone.
