Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh: Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, political exchanges and counterclaims have intensified. Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Virendra Singh from Chandauli has made a bold claim, stating that Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is in contact with the SP. Singh added that the final decision rests with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. In a striking remark, he also described Lord Ram as a “socialist.”
Speaking in Sirathu, MP Virendra Singh countered Maurya’s recent claim that several SP MLAs were in touch with the BJP. Singh said, “Maurya himself is in contact with our party. It is for our party president, Akhilesh Yadav, to decide whether he should be included in the SP.” The statement immediately stirred discussions across political circles.
On Lord Ram, Singh said, “Lord Ram never sought the support of kings or the powerful; he supported forest dwellers and stood with the common people. He was, in thought and action, a socialist. He befriended our Nishad community and respected those from humble backgrounds. Anyone who honors such people is a socialist.”
Singh further criticized the BJP, claiming that the party’s interpretation of Ram supports his return to Ayodhya as a king, which led to the exile of Mata Sita. Singh alleged that such narratives were used to misrepresent Lord Ram’s actions, highlighting the ideological differences between the parties.
The statement by the SP MP has sparked a political storm, with BJP leaders reacting sharply and branding SP leaders as mentally unfit. The controversy has added fuel to the political debate in the state as the final phase of Kharmaas approaches.
