Sonbhadra Police Seize ₹6 Crore Assets of Codeine Syrup Smuggler Bhola Prasad Jaiswal

Sonbhadra, UP: The Sonbhadra police have taken strict action against notorious codeine cough syrup smuggler Bhola Prasad Jaiswal by seizing assets worth ₹6 crore under the NDPS Act. This marks the second major seizure against Jaiswal, a resident of Varanasi, whose properties worth ₹28.50 crore had previously been attached in the city.

The seizure was carried out as part of a special drive against narcotics trafficking by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The action follows legal procedures under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in case number 1191/2025 registered at Robertsganj Kotwali. Following court orders, properties owned by Jaiswal in Madouli, Bharalai, and Jagdishpur areas of Varanasi were attached.

Details of Seized Assets

The confiscated properties include seven houses and land parcels with an estimated total value of approximately ₹4.55 crore. In addition, four vehicles were seized, including a Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai i20, Activa, and Vespa scooter, valued at around ₹51.16 lakh. Bank deposits amounting to ₹70.99 lakh were also frozen.

Police emphasized that this action sends a strong message against narcotics traffickers and the assets generated through illegal activities. The SIT confirmed that strict measures will continue against individuals involved in the smuggling of codeine cough syrup and other controlled substances.

“This operation reflects our commitment to dismantling illegal drug networks and confiscating ill-gotten wealth,” said a senior police officer.
