Son Attacks Elderly Parents with Sickle in Ghaziabad; Daughter-in-Law Allegedly Assaults and Attempts Arson

Ghaziabad: In a shocking incident that has stunned residents of Modinagar, an elderly couple was allegedly attacked by their own son and daughter-in-law over a property dispute. The accused not only assaulted the couple with a sharp-edged weapon but also allegedly attempted to set their house on fire.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Harmukhpuri Colony, where 70-year-old Ramashankar and his wife 65-year-old Sushila were seriously injured in the attack. Police have arrested the accused — their son Manoj and daughter-in-law Kiran.

Property Dispute Behind the Attack

According to the complaint, the family had been embroiled in a dispute over ownership of the house for nearly three years. The elderly couple alleged that their son had been pressuring them to transfer the property in his name.

Police sources said Manoj is in his second marriage and has three daughters from his first wife. After the birth of a daughter from his second marriage with Kiran, tensions reportedly escalated within the household, with allegations of taunts and growing discord.

Brutal Assault and Alleged Arson Attempt

On Monday night, the argument intensified after the elderly couple reportedly threatened to approach the police. Upon learning this, Manoj allegedly attacked his parents with a sickle, inflicting deep injuries to their heads and hands. Both victims collapsed, bleeding profusely.

Kiran allegedly joined in the assault and further injured them. The accused then allegedly vandalized parts of the house and poured petrol inside a room in an attempt to set the property ablaze, reportedly to destroy evidence.

Hearing the couple’s screams, neighbors rushed to the scene, prompting the accused to flee.

Police Action

Neighbors immediately alerted the police. Sushila later lodged a formal complaint at Modinagar Police Station, accusing her son and daughter-in-law of assault and attempted murder with the intention of grabbing the property.

Both accused were arrested the same night. ACP Modinagar Bhaskar Verma confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant provisions of law.

Condition of the Victims

The injured couple was initially admitted to a local hospital but was later referred to a higher medical center in Meerut due to the severity of their injuries. Doctors have described their condition as critical but stable, with hopes of recovery.

The incident has triggered outrage in the locality, raising serious concerns over growing family disputes linked to property and inheritance.
