Social Media Links and Singer Angle Add New Twist to Muzaffarpur Woman and Children Death Case

Muzaffarpur: The mysterious case involving the recovery of a woman and her three minor children’s bodies from the Budhi Gandak river in Muzaffarpur has taken a new turn, with investigators uncovering significant social media links and a possible connection to a singer.

The bodies of Mamta Kumari and her three children were found tied in yellow cloth beneath the Chandwara bridge in the Ahiyapur police station area, triggering shock and outrage across the district. As the investigation intensifies, police are now closely examining Mamta’s social media activity, where she was reportedly very active on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

According to police sources, Mamta was in contact with several individuals through social media. During scrutiny of these interactions, the name of a purported singer has emerged, raising fresh suspicions. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted for the case has so far questioned around half a dozen suspects, including a youth from Aurai. However, no conclusive breakthrough has been achieved yet.

Investigators are focusing on Mamta’s communication records to determine whom she was in frequent contact with before and after she left her home on January 10. The simultaneous recovery of four bodies from the river on Thursday had caused panic in the area and intensified pressure on the police to crack the case swiftly.

A crucial detail under investigation is the yellow cloth used to bind the bodies, which is commonly associated with tent and pandal setups. Police are probing whether Mamta or her husband had any acquaintances linked to the pandal business. Members of Mamta’s maternal family were summoned to the Ahiyapur police station for questioning but were later released. Her husband, Krishnamohan, was also questioned and subsequently released to allow him to perform the last rites of his wife and children.

Police officials revealed that two mobile numbers provided by Krishnamohan are under scrutiny. One number belongs to a singer from Araria, whose location was traced to Gujarat. Although no concrete evidence has yet linked him directly to the crime, he remains under the scanner. The second number belongs to a youth from Aurai, who is currently being interrogated at a secret location. Additionally, a few suspects from the Sipahpur and Zero Mile areas have also been detained for questioning.

On Friday, the SIT visited Mamta’s rented house in Sipahpur Bakhri and gathered information from the landlord and neighbors. CCTV footage from the locality and routes leading to Chandwara ghat was also examined, but investigators have not yet found any decisive clues. The landlord informed the police that Mamta’s family had been living in the rented house since November 1 and that Krishnamohan vacated the room on January 12.

Ahiyapur Station House Officer Rohan Kumar stated that, despite extensive efforts, the mastermind behind the incident has not yet been identified. The investigation continues, with police hopeful that digital evidence and sustained interrogation will soon reveal the truth behind the tragic deaths.
