Saharsa, January 22:
A video allegedly from a Home Guards camp in Saharsa district of Bihar has triggered a major controversy after women police personnel were seen dancing in uniform to a controversial Bhojpuri song, once cited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a symbol of Bihar’s past “jungle raj” culture.
The song — “Marab sixer ke chhe goli chhaati mein re” (Six shots fired for hitting a six) — had figured prominently in political speeches during earlier Bihar elections, where it was invoked to highlight the state’s history of crime and lawlessness. The resurfacing of the song in this context has now put the police department under scrutiny.
Video from Home Guards Camp Goes Viral
The video is said to be from the Bariyahi Home Guards Camp in Saharsa, where several women Home Guard personnel, dressed in police uniforms, are seen performing choreographed dance moves to the song. The footage suggests prior practice, while male personnel are seen standing around, recording the performance on their mobile phones.
Though Navbharat Times Online does not independently verify the authenticity of the video, its circulation on social media has caused a stir from Saharsa to Patna, raising serious questions about discipline and adherence to departmental norms.
Questions Over Police Discipline
The incident has drawn attention because the Bihar Police headquarters has issued strict instructions in the past prohibiting the making of reels, videos, or any form of indiscipline while in uniform or within official premises. The choice of a song historically associated with criminal glorification has further intensified the criticism.
According to initial information, the dance took place during a cultural programme organized after a passing-out parade, but the setting inside a police camp and the use of uniform have made the matter sensitive.
Department Seeks Explanation
Confirming the development, Home Guards DSC Sanjeev Kumar stated that the women personnel seen in the video have been identified.
“An official explanation has been sought from the concerned Home Guard jawans. If the response is not satisfactory, disciplinary action will be initiated,” he said.
The department is also probing who permitted such an event inside the camp premises and whether established protocols were violated.
Political and Social Reactions Expected
The episode is likely to fuel political debate, especially as the song was once highlighted by the Prime Minister himself to underscore issues of crime culture in Bihar. The incident has reignited discussions on professional conduct, use of social media, and discipline within uniformed forces.
Further action will depend on the outcome of the departmental inquiry and the explanations submitted by the personnel involved.
