Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): In a major breakthrough, Hazaribagh Police have arrested six criminals involved in two separate cases of extortion and intimidation. The accused had allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh from a local doctor and later opened fire outside his residence to spread fear when their demands were not met.

According to Barhi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar Vimal, the gang contacted the doctor on October 30, demanding ₹10 lakh as extortion money. On November 6, the miscreants allegedly fired at the doctor’s parked vehicle to threaten him.

Following an intensive investigation, police conducted coordinated raids and arrested all six accused. During the operation, officers recovered one country-made pistol, eight live cartridges, a motorcycle, and six mobile phones used in the crime.

“The arrested men have confessed to their involvement in the extortion attempt,” SDPO Vimal said, adding that the same mobile number was also used to threaten another individual in the Tatijharia police station area, where a separate FIR had been registered earlier.

All six accused are residents of Hazaribagh district. Police officials said further investigations are underway, and additional arrests are likely as the network behind the extortion racket is being traced.
