Six Devotees Killed, Three Injured in Horrific Road Accident in Agra

In a heart-wrenching road accident in Agra district, six devotees returning from Jagannath Puri lost their lives after a speeding container rammed into two auto-rickshaws on Saturday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred near Nagla Chandan on the Jalesar Road under the Khandauli police station area, leaving three others critically injured.

According to police sources, the devotees had embarked on a pilgrimage from Bhadau village in the Sahu Paoo (Sahpau) area on January 20. After completing their darshan at Jagannath Puri, they returned to Agra via Jabalpur and reached Agra Cantt railway station on Saturday morning. From there, they boarded two auto-rickshaws to head back home.

At around 11:30 am, while one auto-rickshaw was overtaking another near Nagla Chandan, a high-speed body-container coming from the opposite direction collided violently with the vehicles. The impact was so severe that both autos were completely crushed, triggering chaos and screams at the accident site.

Five people died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to SN Medical College, where one more victim succumbed during treatment, taking the death toll to six.

Deceased Identified

The deceased have been identified as Ranveer, Lakhmichand, Beejo, Billa, Mistry, Dhanpal, and auto-rickshaw driver Shahid.
The injured include Vijay Pal and Uday Singh, who are undergoing treatment.

Police Statement

Additional Police Commissioner Rambadan Singh reached the spot and stated that the accident occurred due to dangerous overtaking, which led to the container colliding with the autos and dragging another vehicle into the mishap. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Eyewitness Allegations

Eyewitnesses alleged that the container driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Locals reportedly caught hold of the driver and assaulted him before police intervention. Authorities have confirmed that a medical examination of the driver will be conducted to verify the allegations.

The tragic accident has cast a pall of gloom over the area, with grief and mourning gripping the victims’ families and the entire district.
