Sitamarhi: In a strong administrative crackdown against the misuse of licensed firearms, Sitamarhi District Magistrate Richi Pandey has cancelled the arms licences of two influential individuals accused of openly displaying weapons and creating fear among the public.
The action has gained significant attention across the district, as such strict measures against powerful individuals are rarely seen. Officials stated that the decision was taken following a detailed report submitted by Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police Amit Ranjan.
Former Minister’s Nephew Faces Major Action
One of the licence holders whose firearm permit has been cancelled is Shadab Ahmad Khan, a resident of Mehsaul Chowk in Sitamarhi city. Khan is the nephew of late Mohammad Shahid Ali Khan, a former Cabinet Minister of Bihar.
According to officials, Shadab Khan was accused of waving his licensed rifle while sitting on a motorcycle, allegedly attempting to intimidate the public. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media, after which Dumra police registered an FIR under the Arms Act and IT Act.
Authorities confirmed that the viral video was found to be genuine during the investigation. The inquiry also established that the act had created panic and fear among local residents. Based on these findings, the SP recommended cancellation of Khan’s arms licence, which was later approved by the DM.
Criminal Background Cited in Second Case
In another major decision, the DM also cancelled the revolver and rifle licences of Nishit Singh, a resident of Ward No. 8 near Janki Sthan in Sitamarhi city. Singh has reportedly been associated with multiple controversial incidents and has a criminal background.
The Superintendent of Police submitted a report detailing Singh’s criminal history and activities, recommending cancellation of his arms licences in the interest of maintaining law and order.
After reviewing both reports, DM Richi Pandey approved the cancellation of the arms permits, sending a clear message that misuse of licensed weapons will not be tolerated, regardless of influence or status.
Rare Strict Action by District Administration
Officials from the District Public Relations Office (DPRO) said that this is one of the rare instances in recent years when arms licences of influential individuals have been cancelled together. The last major cancellation drive in Sitamarhi took place in 2020, when several licences were revoked due to the death of licence holders.
The latest action is being seen as a strong step towards ensuring public safety and curbing the growing trend of weapon display as a status symbol.
