SIT Fails to Submit Report in Yuvraj Mehta Death Case Even After 10 Days, Despite CM Yogi’s 5-Day Deadline

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the death of engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who drowned after his car got submerged in a basement in Noida’s Sector-150, has failed to submit its investigation report even ten days after the incident — despite Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directing that the report be submitted within five working days.

According to official sources, the SIT, headed by Additional Director General (ADG) Bhanu Bhaskar, is still in the process of finalising its findings. On Thursday, the committee held detailed deliberations in Meerut to complete the final report.

Speaking to Navbharat Times, ADG Bhanu Bhaskar stated that the investigation has reached its final stage and efforts are being made to submit the report to the state government at the earliest. He added that the report is likely to be handed over before Sunday this week.

The SIT began its probe on January 20, conducting inspections at the incident site and examining records of the Noida Authority. The team reportedly stayed in Noida for five consecutive days to carry out an in-depth investigation, as the case involved alleged negligence by multiple departments.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had taken serious note of the incident and ordered a comprehensive inquiry within a fixed time frame. However, officials stated that due to the complexity of the case and involvement of several agencies, the investigation required detailed scrutiny.

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered strong political reactions. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, during his visit to Greater Noida’s Pali and Dhoom Manikpur villages, criticised the state government over the handling of the case.

Reacting to media queries, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that Yuvraj Mehta needed immediate administrative assistance, which failed to reach him on time. “The young man died a painful death in front of his father. This reflects the government’s failure,” he said.

The tragic death has raised serious questions regarding safety measures in residential complexes, basement flooding management, and accountability of local authorities. The state government is expected to take strict action once the SIT submits its final report.
