Meerut: In a bizarre turn of events, the Meerut police have solved a high-value theft worth ₹25 lakh involving gold and silver jewelry, with the victim’s own nephew emerging as the mastermind.
The incident occurred in Baniyapara, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Police Station, when the victim Khurram Manjar had stepped out with his family for a private event. The house was completely locked and empty. During this time, some young men from the neighborhood were flying kites on a nearby terrace.
In an unusual twist, a shoe worn by one of the kite-flyers accidentally landed on the roof of Khurram’s house. Seizing the opportunity, the youth climbed down to retrieve the shoe, noticed the house was unattended, and let greed take over. They broke into the home and looted valuables, including jewelry from cupboards and trunks, worth approximately ₹25 lakh. The thieves escaped without leaving any immediate trace.
Investigation Unveils Shocking Twist
Following the complaint, the Kotwali Police launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and activating informants in the area. The inquiry took a dramatic turn when the police discovered that the mastermind behind the theft was none other than Khurram’s own nephew.
Authorities arrested the main accused, Azhar alias Ajju, along with Nazim, Faizan, Hamdan, and Salim. According to SP City Ayush Vikram Singh, most of the stolen jewelry has been recovered. All suspects have been sent to jail, and further legal proceedings are ongoing.
The case highlights how a seemingly minor incident—a lost shoe—led to the unraveling of a major crime, exposing family betrayal at the heart of the theft.
