Shocking Negligence in Dhar: 11 Children Locked Inside School as Staff Left; Students Jumped Out of Window to Escape

Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): In a shocking display of negligence, staff at a government model school in Tirla, Dhar district, locked the school premises and went home — completely unaware that 11 children were still inside. The incident has triggered outrage among parents and raised serious questions about the school’s management and safety protocols.

Staff Locked the Gate Without Checking Inside

According to reports, after the final school bell on Saturday, teachers and the support staff left the campus in routine manner. The peon locked the main gate without even checking whether any child was still present in the classrooms.

Unbeknownst to them, 11 students were still in a classroom on the first floor, where their teacher had asked them to sit in the sun due to cold weather conditions. The children continued studying on the terrace and did not realise the school had been vacated.

Children Trapped for Hours; Some Started Crying

The students remained trapped inside the school building for several hours. Some began crying in panic, while others tried to console their classmates.
Eventually, the children noticed that one of the classroom windows was open. Using this only escape route, they jumped out one by one.

Class 6 Girl Injured While Jumping from First-Floor Window

While escaping, a Class 6 student injured her leg seriously after jumping from the first-floor window. She lay in pain inside the school premises with no staff present to help her.

Her father later reached the school in search of her and found her lying injured and crying. He rushed her to the hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.

Parents Furious, Accuse School of Severe Negligence

The injured girl’s father has alleged extreme negligence on the part of the school. He said neither the principal nor the security guard bothered to check the premises, even after the children had been locked inside for hours.

Children Explain How They Got Left Behind

The trapped students told reporters that they had been asked to sit on the terrace to study under the sun. When the bell rang for dismissal, they could not hear the noise or see the movement downstairs.
By the time they came down, the entire school was empty and the main gate was locked from outside.

DEO Seeks Explanation from School Staff

The district education officer (DEO) confirmed that the matter has reached him.
He stated:
“The incident has been brought to my notice. A detailed explanation has been sought from the school staff. If clear negligence is established, strict action will be taken.”

This incident has once again raised serious concerns over student safety, staff accountability, and the absence of basic supervision in government schools.
