Bhind, MP: A shocking case of medical negligence has come to light at Bhind District Hospital, exposing serious lapses in the hospital’s management and staff responsiveness. A pregnant woman, in acute labor pain, was forced to deliver her baby in the open hospital premises due to a significant delay in admission to the labor room. Thanks to the timely intervention of a local social worker, both mother and child survived the ordeal.
Delay in Labor Room Admission
According to reports, the woman arrived at the hospital with her family seeking medical assistance for childbirth. However, due to delays in admitting her to the labor room, she was compelled to give birth in an open area of the hospital. Onlookers reportedly did not intervene initially, highlighting a concerning lack of immediate attention.
Social Worker Steps In
Present at the scene, social worker Rani Jain recognized the severity of the situation and immediately called the hospital’s nursing officer for assistance. With the help of other women present, she created a private space around the laboring woman using makeshift screens and oversaw the delivery process. Rani Jain later stated that despite repeated calls, the nursing staff arrived late at the scene.
Hospital Management Under Scrutiny
After some delay, labor room staff reached the site, by which time the baby had already been delivered in the open. The newborn and mother were then safely transferred to the ward by female hospital staff. During the process, a heated argument reportedly broke out between the social worker and hospital personnel regarding the delay. The woman’s family also alleged that negligence by hospital staff forced the mother to deliver outside the labor room.
Official Response
District Hospital RMO R.S. Kushwah denied the allegations of delay, claiming that the labor room staff arrived on time and that every effort was made to manage the situation safely. Nevertheless, this incident raises serious concerns about the hospital’s readiness and emergency protocols, especially in critical maternal care.
