
Pune: In a terrifying incident in Bhigwan, Indapur taluka, Pune district, three men allegedly kidnapped a 21-year-old woman in front of her mother and brother on 17 February. The assailants reportedly sprayed red chili in the eyes of the mother and brother before forcibly taking the woman away. The young woman’s wedding was scheduled for 22 February, prompting outrage in the community and protests on the Pune-Solapur highway.
According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s family, the incident occurred around 4 PM when two men, identified as Zaheer Haroon Sheikh and Ayaan Haroon Sheikh, intercepted the woman and her family near Anand Hotel while they were returning home. The accused allegedly assaulted the mother and brother by throwing chili into their eyes and then forcibly placed the woman into a four-wheeler before fleeing the scene.
The kidnapping sparked anger and tension in the area. Immediately after the incident, relatives and local residents gathered outside the Bhigwan police station, leading to a protest that escalated into a temporary blockade of the Pune-Solapur National Highway. Protesters set tires on fire, disrupting traffic until police intervened.
The police have formed six teams to rescue the abducted woman. Additional Superintendent of Police Ganesh Biradar personally visited the site and is overseeing the investigation. Law enforcement has set up roadblocks at key routes and toll plazas throughout the district and deployed a special team to track the suspects. Authorities have also released a video message urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation.
Efforts to locate the abducted woman and apprehend the accused are ongoing. The police continue to investigate the case to prevent further escalation.
