Shock in Gwalior: Vodafone-Idea BTS Cards Stolen, City Faces 10 Hours of “No Service”

Gwalior: In a shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh, thieves broke into a mobile tower in Gwalior and stole six BTS cards from Vodafone-Idea’s network, leaving thousands of users without service for nearly 10 hours.

The incident took place late Thursday night at the Indus Tower near Yashoda Tower on Mahalaganj Road in the Daarsal University police station area. This tower operates a shared network for Airtel and Vodafone-Idea. The stolen BTS cards and associated jumper cables caused a complete disruption of mobile services—including calling, internet, and online services—within a one-kilometer radius.

Network Down for 10 Hours
As soon as the theft was reported, the company’s technical team rushed to the site. After about 10 hours of intensive work, new BTS cards were installed, restoring the network.

Police confirmed that upon receiving a complaint from the company, a case has been registered against unknown culprits. Airtel representatives Avadhesh Sharma and Shashikant Srivastava also visited the police station to file their complaint. Investigations are currently underway to trace the thieves.

Impact on Users
Each BTS card supports mobile connectivity for thousands of subscribers in the surrounding area. The theft left residents without mobile service for almost 10 hours, highlighting the vulnerability of critical telecom infrastructure to such crimes.
