Shock in Alwar as Muslim Man Cremated with Hindu Rites After Hospital Mix-Up; Families Informed Three Days Later

Alwar, Rajasthan:
In a shocking case of negligence, two bodies were mistakenly exchanged at a hospital in Alwar, leading to the cremation of a Muslim man according to Hindu rituals. The incident has triggered widespread anger within the Muslim community, prompting demands for strict action against the hospital authorities responsible for the blunder.

Body Mix-Up Sparks Outrage

According to reports, the body of Ghulam Sabir, an elderly Muslim man from Pali district, was incorrectly handed over to the family of Kailash Sharma, a resident of Rajaji village in Rajgarh. Due to the hospital’s mismanagement, Sharma’s family unknowingly took Sabir’s body and performed his last rites following Hindu customs.

The mix-up came to light three days later, when members of the Muslim community identified another unclaimed body in the mortuary through an Aadhaar card. They immediately alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP), following which the matter was investigated.

The Muslim community has submitted a written complaint at the Kotwali police station, demanding action against the Chief Medical Officer, mortuary in-charge, and other responsible officials.

How the Mix-Up Happened

On December 6, Ghulam Sabir fell ill while travelling on a train from Pali to Faizabad. He was deboarded at Alwar Junction and taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The GRP placed his body in the mortuary.

Around the same time, two other unclaimed bodies — including that of Kailash Sharma — were also kept in the mortuary by different police stations. With three unidentified bodies stored simultaneously and improper tagging by the hospital staff, a major mix-up occurred. Sharma’s family mistakenly took Sabir’s body and performed the cremation.

Police Attempting to Resolve the Dispute

The GRP, Udyog Nagar Police, and Kotwali Police are now jointly coordinating with both families. Sabir’s relatives have left Pali for Alwar after being informed of the situation. Authorities are trying to ensure that tensions do not escalate further between the communities.

Demand for Accountability

Outraged community members have called for a thorough inquiry and strict disciplinary action against those who allowed such a serious lapse to take place. The hospital administration is under scrutiny, as the incident highlights grave negligence in mortuary management and identification procedures.
