Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a dramatic reminder of the power of every single vote, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) candidate Venkat Dahale clinched victory by a margin of just one vote in the Parbhani Municipal Corporation elections in Maharashtra.
In Ward 1A of the Parbhani civic body, Dahale secured 4,312 votes, narrowly defeating his BJP rival Prasad Nagre, who polled 4,311 votes. The razor-thin margin made the contest one of the most closely fought battles in the recent round of municipal elections.
According to officials, the contest witnessed intense competition throughout the counting process. Another Shiv Sena candidate, Mohan Sonawane, received 1,363 votes in the same ward, while 113 voters exercised the NOTA (None of the Above) option—underscoring how even a handful of votes can alter electoral outcomes.
A Symbolic Win in Marathwada
Dahale’s victory carries added political significance as Parbhani is the only municipal corporation in the Marathwada region where Shiv Sena (UBT) managed to win more seats than the BJP. While the BJP delivered a strong performance across Maharashtra, Parbhani stood out as an exception.
In the Parbhani Municipal Corporation, Shiv Sena (UBT) won 25 seats, compared to the BJP’s 12 seats, marking a notable local success for the Uddhav Thackeray-led party amid an otherwise challenging electoral landscape.
BJP Dominates Statewide Results
Statewide, the BJP emerged as the dominant force in the civic polls. Elections were held on January 15 across 29 municipal corporations, with results declared the following day. According to final figures, out of a total of 2,869 seats, the BJP won 1,425 seats, while Shiv Sena (UBT) secured 155 seats.
The Parbhani result, however, has drawn widespread attention for its dramatic finish, reinforcing a timeless democratic lesson: in elections, every vote truly counts.
