Shia Personal Law Board Passes 24 Resolutions, Condemns Atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, Calls for UCC Review

Lucknow: The All India Shia Personal Law Board concluded its national convention in Lucknow on Sunday, passing a total of 24 resolutions. Among them, a resolution condemning atrocities against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh drew particular attention.

Condemnation of Atrocities in Bangladesh
Maulana Yasub Abbas highlighted that Hindus in Bangladesh are facing severe persecution, including attacks and violence. The Board demanded that the Indian government take a strong stance by reconsidering diplomatic ties with Bangladesh until the rights and safety of Hindu minorities are guaranteed. The Board also emphasized that while Hindus are facing oppression in Bangladesh, Shia communities are similarly targeted in Afghanistan and Pakistan through acts of violence and targeted killings.

Strong Condemnation of Terrorism
The convention passed a resolution condemning terrorism worldwide, including incidents in India. It declared that those supporting or sheltering terrorists are enemies of humanity and rebels against all faiths.

Call for Protection of Rights and Legal Reforms
Board President Maulana Syam Mehdi urged youth to recognize the need for organized advocacy to protect their rights. Maulana Yasub Abbas stressed that surrendering the fight for rights will invite injustice. The Board called for strict laws against mob lynching and proposed forming a committee to assess the socio-economic condition of Shia communities in India, recommending separate reservations to ensure employment and development.

Preservation and Anti-Corruption Measures for Shia Waqf Boards
The Board also demanded a thorough investigation into corruption and illegal sale of properties in Shia Waqf Boards, particularly the Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board. Immediate measures were urged to restore the Husainabad Trust in Lucknow and preserve its historic structures.

Other Key Proposals
Additional proposals included urging the Saudi government to restore the shrine of Hazrat Fatima Zahra and reviewing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India. The Board emphasized safeguarding cultural heritage, protecting minority rights, and ensuring legal accountability.
