
Mumbai/Thane: The race for Thane Mayor has taken a clear shape. On Friday, Sharmila Pimpalolkar, who won from Ward 20, filed her nomination for the Mayor’s post in Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Sharmila Pimpalolkar is the wife of Shiv Sena leader Rohit Pimpalolkar. At the same event, Krishna Patil filed her nomination for the post of Deputy Mayor. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik was also present during the nomination process.
In the recent Thane Municipal Corporation elections, Shiv Sena secured a decisive victory, winning 75 seats, while the BJP won 28 seats. Nine seats went to Ajit Pawar-led NCP, 12 to Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction, and one seat to Uddhav Thackeray’s party. Additionally, AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, won five seats, and one seat was claimed by an independent candidate. Thane Municipal Corporation comprises a total of 131 seats, spread across 33 wards.
