Mumbai/Pune/Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has been discharged from a Pune hospital, marking a key moment ahead of Maharashtra’s upcoming seven Rajya Sabha elections. Upon his return to Baramati, Pawar’s daughter and NCP MP Supriya Sule indicated strong support for his potential re-entry into the upper house.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Sule said, “Our cooperative members and party office bearers wish for Pawar Saheb to contest the Rajya Sabha elections. Everyone believes he should continue his decades-long service to the people.” She emphasized that Pawar himself has urged colleagues to put aside differences and work for the nation’s welfare.
Sharad Pawar’s Unbeaten Political Record
Born on 22 February 1967, Pawar was first elected to the Maharashtra Assembly. Over a political career spanning six decades, he has never lost an election, having been elected 14 times across various legislative bodies: seven times to the Lok Sabha, twice to the Rajya Sabha, and five times to the Maharashtra Assembly. His illustrious career includes terms as Maharashtra Chief Minister, Union Defence Minister, and Union Agriculture Minister.
Comments on Ajit Pawar Plane Crash
Sule also addressed questions surrounding the Ajit Pawar plane crash. She supported NCP leader Rohit Pawar’s call for a transparent safety audit of all aircraft and emphasized that the law must be applied equally to all. She criticized what she described as misconceptions about the party’s ability to influence outcomes, noting ongoing scrutiny of VSR Aviation’s Learjet maintenance practices.
With Maharashtra’s opposition likely to retain one Rajya Sabha seat, discussions about Sharad Pawar’s candidature have intensified. Supriya Sule’s statements are seen as the first public indication of the party’s preference for Pawar’s return to the Rajya Sabha.
