Shamli, UP: In a major police action, a wanted criminal, Rehan, carrying a reward of ₹50,000, was killed in an encounter in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. Rehan had over 90 cases registered against him across Delhi-NCR. This marks the second major police action in the state within 48 hours.
During a routine check related to a robbery case near Jhijhana–Kaserwa Road, Rehan, who was fleeing on a bike after committing a loot, came face-to-face with police. When he saw the officers, he allegedly opened fire, prompting an encounter. In the exchange, one constable, Sumit Baisla, was injured. Rehan’s accomplice managed to escape. Police recovered two pistols—one made in Italy and another indigenous—along with the stolen mobile and cash.
Police Statement
Shamli SP N.P. Singh stated that around 9 PM on Thursday, two bike-borne criminals snatched cash and a mobile phone from Rahul, a resident of Fatehpur. Police immediately launched a search operation. At around 12:30 AM, the police spotted the suspects near the Eastern Yamuna Canal. When the criminals fired at the police, officers retaliated, fatally shooting Rehan, a resident of Okhla Nagar, Delhi, who had been wanted since December by Jhijhana Police Station.
Criminal Record and Rewards
Rehan had over 90 cases filed against him, including 49 in Delhi and 28 in Ghaziabad, with additional cases in Shamli, Baghpat, Hapur, and Bulandshahr for robbery, theft, and attempted murder. A reward of ₹50,000 had been announced for his capture. Police are continuing searches for his escaped accomplice.
This encounter comes a day after STF neutralized another high-profile criminal, Banarasi Yadav, a ₹1 lakh reward shooter, in Varanasi. Police in Uttar Pradesh have intensified operations against notorious criminals in the region.
