Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh: In a tragic incident in Shahjahanpur, a 65-year-old man, Kamendra Vikram Singh, took his own life by hanging himself from a tree, allegedly due to stress over a mounting electricity bill and personal debts. Before his death, Singh wrote a note addressed to the Chief Minister, appealing for relief from the bill and requesting that his children not be harassed over his debts.
Family and Circumstances
Singh lived with his wife and had three married children—two sons working in private jobs and a daughter. According to the family, Singh appeared normal on Wednesday morning. However, shortly after stepping outside, he hanged himself from a tree near his house. His death left the family devastated.
The suicide note found in Singh’s pocket revealed his financial stress. He mentioned an outstanding electricity bill of ₹32,000 and private loans he was unable to repay. He requested the Chief Minister’s intervention to waive the bill and urged that his children not face any trouble due to his debts.
Months of Struggle
Family members stated that Singh had been troubled for the past two to three months but had not disclosed the reason. The SDM and Circle Officer visited the site after being informed. Initially, the family had refused a post-mortem but later agreed after police intervention.
Details of the Bill and Family Situation
The electricity bill, totaling ₹32,000, was being addressed by Singh through the OTS (One-Time Settlement) scheme, but due to procedural requirements, he was asked to pay ₹17,000 in installments. Singh’s sons, Saurabh Singh (also known as Aditya Vikram Singh), works in a pesticide company, while Achyut Vikram Singh is a teacher at a private school and lives with his wife in a rented house.
Police Statement
SP Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed the suicide and stated that the note had been seized. The case is under investigation, and a post-mortem has been conducted. The family has not leveled any accusations.
