Shahdol Constable Dies by Suicide at Police Lines, Incident Followed Phone Dispute

Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh: A tragic incident occurred at the Shahdol Police Lines late last night when a constable took his own life. The deceased has been identified as Shishir Singh Rajput, a 29-year-old officer from Jabalpur. Reports indicate that a heated conversation over the phone triggered the incident.

Incident Details
The constable, posted at the Raksit Kendra, was on duty when he shot himself with his service rifle around 1:25 AM. The bullet struck him under the chin and passed through his head, causing instant death at the scene. Eyewitnesses reported that the officer was talking on his mobile phone shortly before the incident. Following an argument, he threw the phone to the ground in frustration and then fired the rifle.

Immediate Response and Investigation
Police personnel stationed nearby heard the gunshot and immediately rushed to the scene, notifying senior officials. Shahdol Kotwali police and other authorities arrived for inspection, and the broken mobile phone was seized as evidence. An official investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances and reasons behind the suicide.

Background of the Constable
Shishir Singh Rajput hailed from Jabalpur district. He initially received a compassionate appointment in place of his father, Sharad Singh. In 2013, he joined as a Child Constable and was promoted to regular constable in 2015 upon reaching 18 years of age. He is survived by his mother and three sisters. Authorities have informed the family and are proceeding with legal formalities.

Police Statement
The Shahdol Superintendent of Police, Ram Ji Shrivastava, confirmed that the constable, while on duty, committed suicide using his service rifle. He added that the reasons behind the suicide will be clarified after the post-mortem and ongoing investigation, with a particular focus on mental stress and pressures associated with police duty.
